Safe House

We are constantly monitoring the girls on the programme to ensure that they are safe in their homes. There have been cases when a child is in immediate danger eg. sexual or physical abuse or being sold as a child bride. In these situations, community leaders and social workers intervene. Where possible the child is placed with relatives, however in many cases this is not a suitable option but previously there was no safe alternative.

In 2019, we built a Safe House in order to respond to such situations. Initially it was for two small girls with nowhere safe to go. However the number of cases of abuse and neglect became so high, we realised that we had to build a second Safe House. It is a much needed resource in the area and we currently have 20 girls, many who are there for the longer-term as well as some temporary, emergency cases.

We continue to work with the community leaders and social workers so that the girls can live in safety either temporarily or long term, while their cases are being constantly reviewed.

£50 a month supports one of these girls living in the Safe House with everything that she needs.
