The Feeding Programme

Over the last few years, the loss of employment and income has made life extremely difficult for families in the slum. Many have been forced to beg and in the past they have often taken their children out of school in order to do the same. The Feeding Programme has not only encouraged parents to send their children to school every day, it has also taken some of the pressure off the families who were struggling to find enough food.

The children are no longer hungry, their health is greatly improved and they feel safe in a protective space. Overall they have a happier and more positive attitude to life which should help them to raise their aspirations for a brighter future.

We purchase all the necessary food from a local shopkeeper, for two nutritious meals, five days a week.

Our Feeding Programme started with 80 children and at the peak of the pandemic rose to around 300 every day. This meant that we were providing over 4,000 meals per week!

We are still running this programme although now only within the school so it is for around 250 children. We currently provide around 2,500 meals per week.

The cost of feeding a child two meals, five days a week for a month is £3.
